Hikma Cefazolin 1 g Powder for Solution for I.V. Injection 10’s
Cefazolin for Injection, USP is used to treat serious infections caused by susceptible organisms, including:
Respiratory Tract Infections: Caused by S. pneumoniae, Klebsiella, H. influenzae, S. aureus, and group A beta-hemolytic streptococci.
Urinary Tract Infections: Caused by E. coli, P. mirabilis, Klebsiella, and some strains of enterobacter and enterococci.
Skin and Skin Structure Infections: Caused by S. aureus and streptococci.
Biliary Tract Infections: Caused by E. coli, streptococci, P. mirabilis, Klebsiella, and S. aureus.
Bone and Joint Infections: Caused by S. aureus.
Genital Infections: Caused by E. coli, P. mirabilis, Klebsiella, and some strains of enterococci.
Septicemia: Caused by S. pneumoniae, S. aureus, P. mirabilis, E. coli, and Klebsiella.
Endocarditis: Caused by S. aureus and group A beta-hemolytic streptococci.
Perioperative Prophylaxis: To reduce postoperative infections in certain surgeries.
For perioperative use, Cefazolin should generally be discontinued within 24 hours post-surgery, but may be extended to 3-5 days in high-risk surgeries. If infection signs appear, cultures should be taken to identify the causative organism for appropriate treatment.
